How it works

People search check DPI of image when a print shop, yearbook, or visa form rejects a phone photo as “72 DPI” or “too small to print.” Preview and Photoshop already show a number. This page does the job those apps still make you do by hand: translate pixels into inches, then write a print-ready JPEG.

Read the real tag — we parse JPEG EXIF X/Y Resolution, JFIF density, or PNG pHYs (pixels per meter). If the camera never wrote a tag, we say so and assume 72 DPI instead of pretending the file is 300.
See print size — pixels ÷ DPI = inches. A 4032×3024 iPhone shot at 72 DPI is a poster; the same pixels at 300 DPI cover about 13.4×10.1 inches. That is the question behind check DPI of image.
Pick paper + target DPI — 4×6, 5×7, 8×10, US Letter, A4, or custom inches. 300 DPI is the default print shop ask; 150 and 72 are drafts; 600 is fine-art.

FAQ

Why is my phone photo 72 DPI?

Most camera apps omit density or write 72. The pixels are still there. Check DPI of image shows both the tagged number and how large the file prints at 300 DPI so you know whether a 4×6 will look sharp.

Is changing DPI the same as adding pixels?

No. Stamping 300 on a 640×480 file does not invent detail. If the photo is short of the pixels a 4×6 at 300 DPI needs (1800×1200), the export will upscale and we say so. Enough pixels stay sharp.

Do you upload my photo?

No. Decode, DPI parse, and JPEG encode run locally. There is no account.

Can I target 150 DPI or A4?

Yes. 150 DPI is common for large posters viewed from a few feet. A4 and Letter are office prints. Custom accepts 0.5–24 inches. The last preset is stored here only.
